Flexy hand 2

Postby FirozaKothari » Thu Jan 28, 2016 8:53 am

I want to print the flexy hand 2. With the hinges in flexible material but other parts in rigid material. Which is more suitable? ABS or PLA? And why?

For the flexible parts, the only suitable material I know of is filaflex. It is the flexible 3D printable material out there.

As for PLA or ABS, for the rigid parts, it really depends on how much wear you expect it to take, and how much effort you're willing to put into it after it's off the print bed.

PLA is easy, but brittle and susceptible to damage from impact and heat.

ABS is more difficult to work with, but can be acetone smoothed to a nice finish, and is more resistant to heat and impact.

It's worth noting that, as a user, I gratefully prefer hands made of ABS to PLA, because the smooth surfaces make the action feel better, but I haven't used a Flexy Hand before.
