I just wanted to start a thread to collect information from various studies and internal surveys about actual size distributions in hopes that we can leverage the data to improve sizing strategies. The predominant current strategy involves linear scaling of all parts of the device from a native 100% scale to a scale derived from measurements of the recipient. What absolute size referenced as 100% scale varies from device to device. Many devices are referenced to the Cyborg Beast, which is normalized to the hand of a 3 year old being 100% scale. Moving forward, it may ake sense to re-normalize this linear scaling approach as an interim step ahead of more nuanced parametric sizing strategies.
The National Institute for Standards and Testing put together a report in 1975 titled "Physical Characteristics of Children As Related to Death and Injury for Consumer Product Design and Use", which has a remarkable amount of information concerning the physical demographics of children's limbs. I recommend taking a look at the report and some its amazing data.
