Postby Jingfei Zhao » Fri Nov 17, 2017 7:28 am

Hello, my name is Fay Zhao, and my friend’s name is Shawn Pan.
We want to create an e-Nable Chapter in Changsha which is the capital of Hunan province, south central China.
We have built one Phoenix Hand. The video link is here: https://youtu.be/z2YheUdS2DE

Fay,

That's a very ingenious idea of using the hair braiding
elastics in a pinch. I'm sure how those will hold up over time. You should be using HEAVY 1/4" orthodontic bands.

It appears as though your entire print is distorted. Anything on the Z axis appears shorter than it should be. You are also missing some of the parts for the wrist pin assembly.

Do you have any information regarding the setup that you used to print this?

I also want to let you know that I am sending you a PM

Hi, Andrew
Thank you for your PM. I have read it. However,
I am not authorized to use the "compose message" feature so I can't send a massage back.
I sent you a message via facebook.

Fay and Shawn,

Wow guys! MAJOR improvement! It looks really good. Can you post some pictures of the hand? I can see in the video that it is MUCH better than your first attempt.

It is hard to tell in the video, but it looks like an infill pattern is showing through on the gauntlet. You can add a few more top layers, if that is the case.

What are you using for the tendon lines? You should be using braided line, it is stronger than the fishing line and it also doesn't stretch as easy.

Post up some pictures and let me know the tendon material you used.

Hi, Andrew!
Thank you for your immediate reply :D

Here are some pictures.
The instruction Phoenix_v2_assembly_guide says we should use fishing line, so we buy fishing line.
Is fishing line unqualified ??
Or we have to use braided line??

Shawn and Fay,

The print looks good, I think it you add two more top/bottom layers it would cover up the infill pattern on the gauntlet.

The fingers are also acceptable, but the overhang needs a lot of cooling. Sometimes you have to position the print on the Bed differently to get it the cooling it needs. I have to print rotate the print 90degrees on one of my printers because the fans blow straight down by the sides of the nozzle. So if I leave it in the normal orientation, the fingers never even get cooled until it moves to the next finger. If you have problems understanding what I mean, let me know and I can show you some pictures.

Also, do not use regular fishing line, the plastic will stretch and can even cut/wear into the plastics of the palm. I use SpiderWire, it's a coated braided fishing that has an 80lb strength. If you are unable to find that, you should be able to use any very small <1mm braided line. The coating on the SpiderWire is also nice because I feel it helps to guide it through the channels while building the hand.

After all that....
