Requesting approval for phoenix hand v2

Postby danwillm » Thu Jan 04, 2018 2:37 pm

Hi,

My name is Daniel Willmott, I am from Oxford and I would like to submit this hand for approval! I printed it on a printer I created myself, so it doesn't have an official name, but I also printed a bit of it with the Anet A8, with a couple of upgrades to improve safety and print quality. This was created at 130% scale, with rigid.ink 1.75mm fire red PLA.

Here is the video: https://youtu.be/mVMgqE-ds6M

There was a little bit of plastic drooping on the top of the palm, and while I was removing the raft on one of the fingers, a little bit of it came off, but this really doesn't affect the hand at all and will most likely never happen again.
I chose not to put on the mesh and the foam, just so you could see what the actual palm and wrist were like. I hope it's OK.

Thanks,
Daniel

Hey Daniel!

Great video. The print looks okay. Excellent tensioning and functionality!

There are some clear layering issues that need to be worked out in your printer. The layers don't seem to be adhering
perfectly and are quite pronounced. What kind of layer height did you use if I may ask? If you have particularly thick layers
that could cause the relatively icky layering your fingers appear to have.

Consider this message your approval for the TEST HAND and the Phoenix V2 fabrication and assembly badges!

The approval badges are being sent out through a website called credly, so you'll need to get an account on there:

Once you have an account you can take a screenshot of this post or submit the link for this post into credly to claim your approval badge here:

The layer adhesion was interesting, I had bought a new roll of filament for this: rigid.ink pla. The roll was pretty heavy and my extruder motor had a hard time pulling it through, but I'm pretty sure its all fixed now. I have one question: Does this mean that I am able to now print off these hands for people now?

Thanks,

Daniel

You are, but take some care and be sure to fix layer adhesion issues for any devices that you provide to people.
I'd suggest only working with people through enable web central, which will assign an expert to work with you to assure your device is good.

Of course, I've been working on the layer adhesion at the moment and have got it tuned in very well, all should be fine now.

Hi again - I've submitted the approval for credly about 3 days ago, but I don't seem to be getting approval... How long do you think it will take for this to happen?

Thanks,

Daniel

It depends on the volunteers that are reviewing credly. I occasionally do so, but am quite busy with these approvals and my actual job starting back up. I teach at a University and classes start back this week so I'm swamped. I also have heard that there is work to switch over to a new approval/badging system. That's most likely absorbing most of the volunteer time at the moment.
