Devices with Bowden Dual-Actuation

Postby PeterBinkley » Sun Aug 07, 2016 6:20 pm

Please share ideas and source hardware here for Bowden dual-actuation. BDA refers to a mechanism that uses a type of cabling that resists linear compression. Heavy-gauge nylon monofilament seems to currently be the preferred material. The cabling is routed in such a way that it causes joints to actuate in one direction when pulled, and the opposite direction when pushed.

The Osprey Hand uses BDA.
Here's the assembly manual. The bill of materials is sourced for North America.
In this case, the nylon monofilament in the instructions is fishing line. Note that the minimum thickness for a 100% build is 1.2mm, and for a 160% hand it would be about 2.0mm. There may be other sources for nylon mono (such as nylon 3d printer filament and weed eater trimmer line)
